Anchor

Sometimes God thinks He is funny. Here is a post that I wrote at the tender age of 18 during my freshman year at ORU. Who knew how applicable it would become just a few years later as I depart from my undergraduate experience and face unknown adventures ahead…

Anchor.

So imagine that you’re itching to get somewhere, to achieve a goal (I’m sure that’ll be difficult for you) but the timing doesn’t seem to be allowing any progress. The season is all wrong. But suddenly something changes. An opportunity is unveiled and is undeniably enticing, though risky. You struggle inside, knowing that it’s the wrong season but drawn to this inviting (yet sketchy) opportunity. So what do you choose?
In Acts 27, an anxious crew chose the latter. This ship was taking Paul across the Mediterranean to see Caesar. Paul pointed out to them that the season was all wrong for the trip. The winds would not be in their favor; they were untamable. But out of the blue, the wind changed to a favorable direction for them. They got excited and jumped at the opportunity to make it to their destination ahead of schedule. So they set off and all was well. But not for long.
The very thing that gave them such an irresistible opportunity grew into a monster. The wind seized control of their ship and instead of trying to fight it, the helpless crew succumbed to the will of the untamable wind, hoping that they’d end up where they set out to go. Eventually they had to abandon ship altogether or share the same fate and destruction as the ship.
We’ve all got dreams and goals. They motivate us. They encourage us. They drive us crazy. We are anxious  to make them a reality. We will each have an enticing wind come our way and many of us will be caught up in it. But always remember that there is a right time and season for everything under the sun (and/or  moon). Be mindful of your season. If it isn’t your season to act…be patient, drop your anchor, and wait.
