One might think that living life together in Christian community should be pretty simple, and it probably is. We just make it more complicated than it should be. We know living in community with one another as Christians is important so we try all kinds of methods to make sure that we accomplish this community thing.
“Life together under the Word will remain sound and healthy only where it does not form itself into a movement, an order, a society, a collegium pietatis, but rather where it understands itself as being a part of the one, holy, catholic, Christian Church, where it shares actively and passively in the sufferings and struggles and promise of the whole Church.” pg 37
Bonhoeffer challenges our ideas about what it means to live together as members of the Body of Christ rather than fooling ourselves into believing that we are living in this great community that is nothing more than living in proximity with one another with some overlapping events and programs that force us to interact with one another.
