Transformation

“I can no longer condemn or hate a brother for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble he causes me. His face, that hitherto may have been strange and intolerable to me, is transformed in intercession into the countenance of a brother for whom Christ died, the face of a forgiven sinner.” pg 86

Intercession. It is more than offering a prayer that so and so’s situation would improve. It is a work of transformation not only for the life of the one for whom you pray but also for yourself in the way that you see others. Accepting the call to intercession is often a challenge because it requires letting go of whatever hatred (however justified it may seem) you may harbor toward another  and allowing God’s transformation to take place. Could you imagine what it would be like if every Christian chose to intercede for our enemies?

“To make intercession means to grant our brother the same right that we have received, namely, to stand before Christ and share in His mercy.” pg 86

Intercession is not so much about how I can bring about change in someone else’s life. It is about making way for them to dwell in the presence of God where transformation takes place. And in doing this, I find that I myself am transformed as well. I discover the heart of God.
